I thought Digg is the most popular site people use, but after looking into the list of top 50 sites of the year I come to know that I was totally wrong. Digg is almost gone from the list and same as with Technorati.
Found that Flicker is the top most popular site of the year 2009. Top 10 sites are listed below:

Google Alert is now “GIGA ALERT”. I come to know about this when I checked out 16th Aug, mails. I heard about the Google alert from my friends and through lots of articles on internet. Then I decided to subscribe for that. I get mails in my inbox with new Google new alterts.
Its nice to know that they have updated their new services with changed name.
See what I found in the mail:
“Following our earlier message, Google Alert has now been renamed Giga Alert. As part of our ongoing efforts to provide you with the best alerting service on the web, we have introduced a couple of exciting improvements:
* News alerts – You are now able to choose between up-to-date alerts on the entire web, or alerts focused specifically on news sources.
* Deeper searches – You may now search deeper than ever before, with the maximum search depth for the Premium, Professional and Platinum services increasing to 250, 600 and 1000 respectively.
We have also now switched over to the Yahoo search index, as Google is discontinuing providing an API with sufficient search depth to run the service. This transition allows us to offer the improvements above. The change is automatic and you will continue to receive the same great alerting service that you’re used to. If you have a spam filter, please make sure to add alert@gigaalert.com to your whitelist, since your alert emails will soon be coming from that address.

Now a days Google really updateing its services and there are lots new one. Hope to get more in future.
We all well familiar with twitter as its services are quite popular among net users. Its a social networking and micro blogging site. Here you can find so many people related to your business or business of your interest.
